National and International Experience
Being from The Netherlands, Daan has played and coached international field hockey. He played in the Dutch National League
and competed internationally against Germany, England, Russia, and Spain, in addition to other countries. This experience
has taught him about different field hockey philosophies, techniques and methods, which he now teaches others. Daan is what
some call a "hockey head." In other words he loves and knows field hockey more than most.
coached at many levels before coming to the USA. He coached boys, girls, men and women for more than 20 years. His knowledge
of, and passion for, the sport translate in his coaching. He loves what he does and he knows how to make it fun and challenging
for his players.
Fourteen years ago Daan started coaching at Michigan State University. During
his four years at MSU, the team won several Big Ten titles, made four NCAA appearances and reached a number
1 position in the country.
Later Daan became the Associate Head Coach with Wake Forest University where he stayed
for 6 succesful years. During his six years with the program, the team made it to the Final Four 4 times, won several
ACC championships and yielded numerous All American players. Daan is now taking his field hockey knowledge and talents to more
athletes and teams around the country. His focus is on small clinics and player-and team- development.
Since 2003 Daan has been actively involved with USA Field Hockey. He
has been a Head Coach for the High Performance program, where he worked with numerous former and current National team players.
Daan has also worked with Junior National Camp, FDIC
and the Futures program at Wake Forest University. In 2009 Daan was a guest coach with the men's National Team.
From November 2011- July 2013, Daan was Director of Players and Coaches Development
with the (local) Optimist Club of Winston-Salem.
In November 2013, Polders returned from Denver, CO. For those three months, Polders has worked as the Director of Field
Hockey at Colorado Academy, a private school. Besides coaching the Varsity team, Polders managed the program, the other teams
and coaches, organized clinics and developed a field hockey program for 6th graders.
Like in 2012,
the Varsity team had again a successful season under Polders' guidance as it won the Conference and the State Championship
for the second consecutive year as the only undefeated team in the Colorado with a 35-0 record over two seasons.
was also named 2013 Colorado Coach of the Year like last year.
Until the 2017 Spring, Daan Polders was the Co-Director and Program Director for Horizon
Field Hockey Club. A local ambitious club with the potential to grow and always represented on the big stage. With his background,
network and experience Daan will be an asset for all the players. Also those who have the ambition to play in college can
consult him regarding the recruiting process.
Polders was the Varsity Head Coach and Program Director at Villa Maria
Academy from 2014-2017. In those four seasons, Polders won four League titles, three Districts 1 Championships as
well as two State Championships with an overall record of 94-6.
Daan is what others call "a players' coach." He knows what it takes to improve a player and he knows how
to make the experience fun and educational. His most recent ambition is to help interested and ambitious young players, which
is why Daan has begun organizing clinics and camps.
Daan is also willing to share his knowledge and ideas
with coaches. Thus, coaches' clinics are also available.

In April 2018, Polders was named US Field Hockey U17 National Team Head
Field Hockey Coach.
